Girls Who Care, Girls Who Lead
A community evening hosted by The Maine Girls; Academy discussing girls’ leadership and activism. Speakers include Colby professor, activist and author Lyn Mikel Brown who writes extensively on the relational lives of girls at the intersection of race, class, and gender, the impact of media, and girls' creative forms of activism. Our discussion panel will also include local girl activists who have created their own organizations in Maine. Speakers will be Emma and Charlotte Spies founders of Lemonade Stand, Julia Hansen founder of The Yellow Tulip Project and Lyn Mikel Brown, professor of education at Colby College and cofounder of three grassroots organizations: SPARK Movement, Powered By Girl, and Hardy Girls Healthy Women. Lyn is the author of 6 books about gender and girlhood, including her most recent, Powered By Girl: A Field Guide For Supporting Youth Activists.
