One Light, Many Candles Performance for ILAP

6:00PM - 8:00PM

Congregation Bet Ha'am 81 Westbrook St.
South Portland , ME 04106

The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) welcomes Noel “Paul” Stookey and his wife, Reverend Betty Stookey, to Congregation Bet Ha’am June 9 at 6 pm. The performance is a program developed by the Stookeys called One Light, Many Candles, an intercultural awareness performance that includes music and readings to engage the audience in the concepts of one world, a unified human purpose and working together.

Noel Stookey is Paul of the famous folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Since Mary Travers’ death, Noel and Peter Yarrow still play together occasionally. The group won 5 Grammy’s, had 13 top 40 hits, and 8 albums certified Gold and 5 certified Platinum selling. They marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in the 1963 Washington DC Civil Rights demonstration. And in 2006 they were given the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award.

This performance carries on the tradition of the group’s activism around social justice, human rights and peace. The Stookeys perform it currently in venues around the globe, and on June 9 they bring it to Congregation Bet Ha’am, 81 Westbrook St, South Portland in a performance for ILAP.

Tickets to the event are free, but registration is required and the agency expects a capacity crowd. Doors open at 5:15 with open seating for the 6 pm performance. To reserve a seat, register at http://bit.ly/ILAP1Light. The event is generously sponsored by Oak Hill Beverage.
