Toddler Room

This week during gathering time we have been continuing to talk about spring and the changes it brings to the environment. After reading Hey, Little Ant much conversation was generated about taking care of living things. Toddler friends were challenged to think about if they would squish the ant or let it be. It was interesting that all friends decided they should let the ant be free. Many alternative plans were created for the ant so it could remain in the world around us. Such a caring, compassion group of kids! Small group projects were inspired from this discussion. Friends were able to play with and sort a variety of insects. We talked about how specific insects move from place to place. We also spent some time counting the number of legs on a variety of bugs. We talked about butterflies and the life cycle they go through. For an art project we used spoons and dropped small amounts of paint all over paper. Then using magic words, we folded the paper in half, moved the paint all around, and..... just like that.... we had created beautiful butterflies. Toddler friends were able to see first-hand how butterfly wings are symmetrical. Lastly, we decorated invitations for our Special Person Luncheon. We are looking forward to this much anticipated event!

Nursery Room

It has been so nice to have an entire week with no rain to enjoy the warmer temperatures and the beautiful sun! We have taken advantage it and spent not only extra time playing on the playground, but also having our morning snacks together outside! Please remember to bring sunscreen to school for your child. We ask that you apply it in the morning and we will be sure to reapply through the day as needed.

Shabbat Bear is wrapping up his visits with the last couple of friends who need a turn. We have truly enjoyed reading about everyone's adventures and seeing the wonderful pictures you took to capture these memories. SB is such a great tradition for the Nursery Room and we look forward to it each year!

Pre-K Room

While much of our focus this time of year is guiding your children to enjoy one another and their dwindling preschool days, their abilities and knowledge base continues to grow and keeps us on our toes. We continue to up the ante with our morning message, challenging them to notice more subtle misspellings, filling in more letters, and providing an opportunity to build their roster of sight words. We've even been introducing the concept of punctuation! Many of the Pre-K kids are on the verge of reading and the ones who are right behind are solidifying rhyming skills and letter sounds. We think it's impressive to see how engaged every member of our class is during this literacy focused time of day.
