Introducing for the very first time The Yiddish Music Treasure And National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow Michael Alpert
He is a singer who will make your soul tremble. A violinist who can make you cry. An accordion player and dancer who stirs up joyous frenzy. A scholar, historian, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and storyteller who speaks eight languages.
He is officially an American national treasure—a winner of the highest government honor bestowed on a folk artist, a National Heritage Fellow.
He is the Emmy Award / Rose D’Or winning Musical Director of the PBS Great Performances special Itzhak Perlman: In the Fiddler's House, Executive Producer of the two Perlman klezmer CDs on Angel/EMI, and directed the subsequent international concert tours. He performed with Brave Old World in the above productions and appeared with Mr. Perlman on CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman.
There will be a Family Contra Dance, led by local musical treasure, Greg Boardman, at 5:30PM
