Yom HaZikaron-Yom HaAtzmaut Celebration

5:30PM - 8:00PM

Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) / Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day)

Join the Jewish Community for a solemn ceremony for this year’s Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terror followed by an uplifting celebration marking 68 Years of Israel’s Independence

Children’s activities and Israeli food
 

Participants are encouraged to wear blue and white.

 

5:30 PM Ceremony to include:
  • A moment of silence
  • Reading of names and sharing stories of fallen soldiers with connections to Maine as well as victims of terror in Israel from the past year
  • Israel Defense Force story by Levey Day School teacher, Diana Kovinsky
  • Music with Sharon Newman
  • Yizkor and Kaddish Prayers with Rabbi Carolyn Braun
  • Singing Hatikvah and Am Yisrael Chai

6:00 PM Celebration to include:

  • Israeli folk dancing led by Orly Kahn
  • Kadima Beth El teaching booth
  • Israel-themed artwork on display by Levey Day School students
  • Light supper including Israeli salads and pasta
  • Slide show of community trips to Israel this year including those of Jordana Avital (Birthright), Rabbi Gary Berenson & Sidnee Gozansky, Congregation Bet Ha'am and Center Day Camp Director, Eli Small.
  • Face painting
  • Coloring
  • More folk dancing at 6:45 PM
